Geometry Dash Death Moon is created as an Easy Demon with a level of 10 stars by Caustic, the emergency user account of FunnyGame. It is the 8th most-liked demon in the game and one of the most acclaimed levels in Geometry Dash, receiving praise for its intricate art, music, gameplay, and innovative effects. Terron created and released Reanimation, a spiritual successor, in 2.0.
The level begins with an easy cube section with speed changes that alternate between triple-speed and half-speed. The cube changes directions via a mirror portal and enters automatic mode. The player then enters a moderately difficult ship sequence with mildly tight spaces, which can be difficult for newcomers.
The mini-cube transforms into a dual-cube part that must be memorized. Following that is a relatively easy wave section, though the flashing blocks and spikes may confuse the player. This is followed by two hard mini-wave sections separated by a regular-wave section. The player then enters a nearly automatic mini-cube section, which leads to the song's pre-drop, where the player transitions to a ship and ball part, respectively.
Then comes a moderately difficult triple-speed wave section that can be mastered with enough practice. The music then calms down, and the player encounters two normal-speed cube parts and two ball parts with relatively easy timings. It is followed by a mini-cube section that only requires one long click and a UFO section with relatively simple timings. The player then goes auto and transitions into an auto drop, where the song's second pre-drop begins. As the pre-drop progresses, the player enters a moderately hard, half-speed dual wave section, which is followed by a normal wave.
