Super Mario Kart is a racing game for karts that Nintendo created and released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
The eight Mario series characters that the player controls in Super Mario Kart each have unique skills. Players can compete against computer-controlled characters in four multi-race cups with 20 tracks spread across three difficulty levels when playing in single-player mode. Power-ups that increase speed and attack can be used to your advantage during the races. As an alternative, there is a time trial option where players compete against the clock. In the multiplayer mode, two players can compete in the cups at the same time or go head-to-head in the Match Race mode. To beat the other players in the third multiplayer mode, Battle Mode, you must destroy the balloons that encircle each kart and assault them with power-ups.
Super Mario Kart has had multiple sequels published for consoles, handheld devices, and arcades; each has seen critical and financial success.
